Superior eXF 9039 B E-bike, a Bosch Motor, fun, reliable ride

Words by Mia de Paula:

Superior is a bike brand that’s been around for over 30 years. Driven by Europe’s cycling heritage and precision engineering, they specialize in bikes ranging from traditional mountain bikes to advanced e-bikes like the eXF 9039 B. The bike we tested featured an alloy frame built for durability and responsiveness, as well as come great components! Its geometry excelled on descents, providing stability on technical trails. However, as a 5’4″ rider, I found the medium frame’s reach uncomfortable on some long climbs and long stretches of flat terrain-nonetheless, it was a fun bike to ride!
I’ll note that it’s disappointing that the brand doesn’t offer a smaller frame for shorter riders.

First impressions:

  • Versatile trail/enduro bike with 160mm front/rear travel
  • Stable, fun, and comfortable handling
  • Heavy in medium frame, 57lb/26kg
  • Reliable and long-lasting Powerful Bosch motor
  • Affordable for its build and specs

Who is this bike for?

  • Riders on a budget looking for premium features and components
  • Those who value stability and confidence on descents
  • MTB enthusiasts ready to customize cockpit and fit

Pros:

1- Bosch CX Motor
2- Comfortable on Descent
3- Components
4- Schwalbe Tires
5-  Price

Cons:

1- NO SMALL FRAME OPTION
2- Weight (57lb/26kg)
3- Cockpit
4- Handlebar width and rise
5- Saddle

Sizing:

We demoed the Medium frame bike, because Superior does not offer any small frames. The reach was very long but the wheelbase made it a very stable ride.

On the Trail- Southern California

Riding the Superior was a super fun experience. The components on this bike made it for a smooth and reliable ride. The 29-inch Schwalbe tires deliver outstanding traction and rolling efficiency, performing reliably on loose dirt, wet roots, and hardpack trails.
The RockShox suspension, helped the bike easily absorbs bumps and drops, offering control and comfort on rocky trails and fast descents.

The cockpit was the only minor drawback of this bike, but it’s an easy fix. With its affordable price point, upgrading the handlebars and stem to better suit your comfort is a cost-effective solution that won’t break the bank.

Descending:
Descending on this bike was a standout experience. It felt responsive, stable, and grounded, thanks to its well-balanced weight and tires. It gave me confidence to take on trails I would otherwise shy away from.
I had no issues with steeps, or chunk despite the low rise bars.

Climbing:
The Superior was reasonably comfortable for short periods climbs, but its long reach and flat handlebars proved challenging for a shorter rider like me. On some climbs, I often found myself having to shift forward off the saddle to maintain balance, which disrupted my overall comfort and stability. On longer climbing stretches, I found myself getting fatigued due to the long reach.

Bosch CX Motor & Battery

The bike boasts one of the most reliable and powerful systems in the industry- The Bosch Performance Line CX motor. I delivers 85 Nm of torque and 600w of peak power and comes loaded with a fully integrated Bosch 750Wh battery with enough charge for 93miles/150km.

With 4 powerful modes the battery rarely ran out!
Changing modes is easy via the downtube or ergonomically done via the handlebars.

I could ride lap after lap without ever worrying about running out of battery.

Geometry

Geo information is also available on BikesOnlines website. We found that the reach was very long on the medium frame, and the stack was much higher than other bikes we have demoed.
Even so, the long wheelbase provided stability required for steep and chunky terrain.

Overall:

This e-MTB is an excellent investment for taller riders new to the sport. It offers impressive travel, a reliable motor, a stable ride, and exceptional value for its price. As I said above, the cockpit was the only minor drawback of this bike, but it’s an easy fix. With its affordable price point, upgrading the handlebars and stem to better suit your comfort is a cost-effective solution that won’t break the bank.
