Terry Bicycle Saddles: Road, Gravel, and MTB Options

Words by Mia de Paula

Terry Bicycles designs saddles tailored for a variety of cycling disciplines—road, gravel, and mountain biking. Recently, Candice and I had the opportunity to test three of their models to see how they performed.

Personally, I’ve always gravitated towards wider saddles that accommodate my wider hip bones, while Candice tends to prefer something more mid-width. While all three saddles tested are great options for mountain biking, one was a clear winner for us.

Butterfly Century Saddle

The Butterfly Saddle, Maximum Comfort for Every Ride

The Butterfly Saddle stands out with the widest cutaway in its lineup, designed for optimal pressure relief. Both Candice and I noticed a significant reduction in center pressure, making it a great fit for longer rides.

What impressed us even more was the balance between comfort and performance. We didn’t experience much pressure on our sit bones, nor any chafing, even during extended climbs or bumpy trail sections. The saddle felt stable and supportive in all conditions.

After testing the other two options, Candice and I agreed that this was our favorite. It provided the best overall comfort compared to the other two saddles we tried, making it our top pick.

  • Highlights:
    • Has a width of 152mm
    • Wide center cut out
    • Retails for $189.95
    • Weight: 268 grams; 9.5 ounces
Corta Saddle

The Corta Saddle, A Sleek Option with Notable Trade-Offs:

The Corta Saddle features the largest cutaway of all Terry saddles, aimed at delivering superior pressure relief. I found it to be quite comfortable during most of my rides, and I’m happy to report that there was no chafing at all.

However, by the end of our longer sessions, both Candice and I noticed increased pressure on our sit bones. While this didn’t cause any discomfort during shorter rides, it was something to consider for extended outings.

The Corta’s shorter length, compared to the Butterfly and Topo saddles, is a plus for riders who prefer a more compact saddle design, which I personally liked. It’s a good option for those seeking a saddle with a minimal profile, but it might not be ideal for longer endurance rides.

  • Highlights:
    • Has a width of 149mm (mid width)
    • The largest center cut out of all Terry saddles
    • Retails for $199.95
    • Weight: 235 grams
Topo Saddle

The Topo Saddle, Solid, But Better Suited for the Road:

The Topo Saddle is Terry’s go-to “mountain bike saddle,” but surprisingly, it ranked lowest in our testing. While it offered decent comfort, it wasn’t as ideal for longer rides compared to other models we tried.

We did appreciate the generous cutout, as well as the width and length, which provided good sit-bone support. Like the Butterfly and Corta saddles, there was no chafing during shorter rides, making it suitable for less intense outings.

Interestingly, Candice found the Topo to be more comfortable on her road bike than on the mountain trails. It may be marketed for MTB, but it might just shine brighter on pavement.

  • Highlights:
    • Has a width of 150mm (mid width)
    • Terry’s signature cutaway through the center of the saddle for pressure relief
    • Retails for $99.95
    • Weight: 260 grams; 9.3 ounces
