Revel Rail 29- Custom Build

Hey everyone, keeping with the theme of Revel, which is the best brand of bikes I’ve ever ridden, I decided to do a custom build of my first Enduro mountain bike. 
I’ve been dreaming of doing an enduro race and pushing my skills over the last year. So, when I saw that Revel came out with their enduro rig, I just had to get it! 
Like my previous Revel bike-the Rascal- this bike climbs like a beast!! ONLY better!! On this bike, I have PR’d a ton of segments on my local trails, including steep climbing terrains. The bike is powerful, nimble, stable, and climbs incredible well. 

I rode it in Sedona for two weeks, which was a dream! I took it on green, blue and black trails all of which the bike handled like a champ! 

The one and only issue I have with this bike is the crankset that I added. It’s a 170mm crankset which is what I had on my Rascal. Unfortunately, the BB is lower on this bike and the amount of pedal strikes and crank strikes I get is ridiculous!! 
I’ve checked and dialed my suspension, so I know that’s not the culprit. What I need is a shorter set of cranks. Currently, I’m trying to find some SRAM GX eagles 165mm cranks- if anyone can find some for me, let me know! 

Where I ride:  Roughly 75% of my riding is in Ventura and LA Counties, in Southern California. A lot of it is cross country style riding, with some fun flowy downhills. There is quite a bit of climbing here, but this bike handles it really well, which is one of the main reasons I chose it.
I also ride in Sedona 3-4 times a year. In March, I was at the Sedona MTB Fest and was able to ride the Rail all around Sedona trails-the tech and the flow- and it performed beautify! It’s like the bike is made specifically for that environment: the techy climbs, steep rock gardens, & roots. 

Why the Rail: Like I said above, this bike was built for me to level up! I’m going to be riding a lot of parks this year, enduro, rooty and tech trails. This is the perfect bike! 
The geometry of the bike handles anything I throw at it. 

My recommendation: I highly recommend this bike for anyone who wants to level up and try new enduro style riding. The 155mm of rear travel combined with either 160mm or 170mm of front travel, makes it a great combination for steep, chunk terrain. 
Keep in mind that when choosing a bike the perfect cinderella bike doesn’t exist…  Choosing a bike should not only be about where you ride, but also what you want do with that bike. Do you want to learn tech, or steeps? Choose the bike you want for what you want to do with it,  as well as where you want to ride. There’s no right or wrong answer. 

I demoed this bike from Thunder Mountain Bikes in November. The crew and Thunder Mountain is amazing, and James was sure to order a small Rail for me to demo, which I was super greatefull for, given no other shops have small bikes to demo. 
I ordered the bike frame and the wheelset from Revel directly. Everything can be done on Revel’s website, and their team is there to guide you with any questions you may have. 

The components I gathered from my local bike shop Newbury Park Bike Shop, and Thunder Mountain Bikes. NP Bike shop also built the bike for me, and added extra special touches to the build.
